Comics Books Are Hot, Baby!

superman-sets-fire-to-moneyThe numbers agree: comics books scored big during the opening weekend for Sin City: A Dame To Kill For!

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy topped the box office once again, raking in a dope $17.6 million. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which was originally a comic book back in the 19th century, made $16.8 million.

If I Stay, an adaptation of a plain and stupid and picture-less (ugh) book, made only $16.3 million. That was good enough for an embarrassing third place opening. Serves them right.

Sin City: A Dame To Kill For took eight place with $6.4 million. Disappointing? Nah. Robert Rodriguez and his backers must be licking their lips right about now. Once Guardians of the Galaxy is done making all of the comic book money, Sin City 2 can swoop in for the sloppy seconds.

We’ll follow-up on that burgeoning story — as well as much, much more — in next week’s report.
