The numbers agree: America loves a good trilogy!
That’s what we learned from the weekend’s box office numbers, as The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies topped the charts with $56 million in earnings. Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb wasn’t far behind with $17 million.
Annie, which is only the second film in the Annie trilogy, couldn’t compete. It made a disappointing $16.3 million.
There’s a lesson here for Hollywood: even if the first film doesn’t earn much, keep working at it. By the third film, you’ll be rolling in dollars.
Check back next week when we see how The Interview fares in extremely limited release.
