The numbers agree: climbing Everest is easier than climbing the box office these days.
That’s right: Everest struggled in its opening weekend at theaters. The mountain disaster flick came in 5th place with a disappointing $7.5 million. That’s not even higher than the number of people who have climbed Everest, which amounts to about 10 million (approximately).
Johnny Depp fared better with Black Mass, but even he couldn’t make it to the top. Black Mass grossed $23.3 million, putting it in 2nd place.
The only one able to scale the box office successfully this weekend was Patricia Clarkson, star of Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials. The third film in the Hunger Games trilogy made $30.3 million and finished in 1st.
Check back next week, when all of these films will try to mount Hotel Transylvania 2!
